William drums his fingers on the desk in his room. It seems as if time has slowed purposely. The minutes tick by tortuously as he awaits the telephone call he’s been hoping for all day. Five minutes here, ten minutes there, it’s simply not enough. Not when it’s this important, not when the most important person to him is thousands of miles away. William checks his clock...it's almost six, way past when Harry normally calls...he bites his thumbnail as he waits. The ticking of the clock is almost too much to bear as he watches the seconds, minutes, go by.
When his phone finally rings he jumps with excitement and it barely begins its second ring when he picks it up.
“Hey,” comes his brother’s voice, gruff and tired-sounding.
“’M sorry. We had a bit of a shoot out and—”
“Shoot out? You’re ok, all the guys ok?”
“Everyone’s fine, we’re good. No worries.”
“I’m always worried.”
“Shoot out went on how long?”
“Few hours. I was later because I needed a shower, it’s been a week.”
William smiles slightly at that. “I miss you.”
“I miss you too, you know that.”
“Did you get my letter?” William asks hopefully.
“Yeah…you really think mum would be proud?”
“I’m proud of you Harry and I think she would be too.”
William doesn’t have to say ‘you’re welcome’ because Harry already knows. He smiles to himself, just relishing in the sound of Harry breathing, a sound he sorely misses.
“I love it here.”
“I know,” William mutters, somewhat resentfully.
“But I miss you more than anything.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
William sighs softly at the words and smiles to himself.
“Not too long until you come home, I can’t wait.”
“But it makes it better knowing you’re there. I really wish I was kissing you right now...maybe more...”
William’s cheeks flush slightly. “I wish you were too.”
“Mm, I’ll make that a promise for when I come home. I’d better go, the other guys needs the phone.”
“Ok…stay safe Harry you hear me? Don’t you dare let anything happen to you.”
“I love you more than anything. I can’t lose you.”
“I love you too.”
William frowns when the line goes dead. He wants to talk to Harry more, but he knows he’ll call again sometime this week. And until that next phone call, he nibbles his nails and jerks at every ringing phone and message sent to the palace and goes to sleep every night with clips of Harry’s phone messages ringing in his ears.
